Asta, the Giant Tasmanian Freshwater Crayfish

Asta is co-presented with the Bob Brown Foundation and was built by dozens of Bob Brown Foundation volunteers.

From the cool rivers of Northern Tasmania comes the largest freshwater invertebrate in the world. Asta is over seven metres in length, with piercing eyes, ten moving limbs and a vibrant blue shell. But be careful – logging and habitat loss can bring out his grumpy side, and those pincers aren’t just for show!

Past appearances of Asta:
St Kilda Festival, 2019
Melbourne University, National Threatened Species Day, 2019
Sustainable Living Fest, Bendigo, 2018
Sustainable Living Fest, Melbourne, 2018
